Solar flares produce large bursts of radiation which can affect weather, disrupt communications and interfere with electronic devices. Photonis products have been launched on multiple missions to predict and quantify the severity of these flares, allowing significant warning time to maneuver space assets away from the source. Photonis products have been used to study solar wind, sun spots and solar storms, as well as to monitor weather patterns on Earth from space or the upper regions of the atmosphere.
Some notable missions for weather and solar monitoring include:
GOES-R, CREAM, DMSP, SOLAR MAX, SOHO, SOLAR POLAR
