Photonis is on its way to Jupiter!

The launch by Ariane 5 #VGA260 on the 14th of April was a huge success!

Photonis microchannel plates are onboard the Juice Explorer spacecraft that will explore Jupiter’s complex environment in depth.

Juice is the first large-class mission in ESA’s Cosmic Vision programme.
It is carrying the most powerful remote sensing, geophysical, and in situ payload complement ever flown to the outer Solar System.

It is an eight year cruise with flybys of Earth and Venus to slingshot it to Jupiter. Once arrived and while orbiting Jupiter, Juice will make 35 flybys of the three large moons.

To be precise, Photonis hightech solutions are part of the UVS instrument that is a UV imaging spectrograph able to characterise the composition and dynamics of the exospheres of the icy moons and to study the Jovian aurorae, and to investigate the composition and structure of the planet’s upper atmosphere.

This ambitious mission will also discover more about these compelling destinations as potential habitats for past or present life.
